Welcome to the Reasons for the Seasons Webquest!

Why do we have seasons? Are we closer to the sun in summer than in winter? Why are days longer in the summer than in the winter? At the end of this webquest, you will use illustrations and descriptions to explain the reasons for the seasons.

Misconceptions:

In this section you will explore some of the misconceptions students have about the seasons. Use the following websites to identify common misconceptions about the seasons.

It's the Tilt

In this section you will explore how the tilt of the Earth affects the seasons of the Earth. Be sure to both describe and illustrate the tilt of the Earth relative to the sun during each of the seasons.

Earth's Location and Seasons

As you have just explained, the tilt of the Earth relative to the sun affects the seasons. Use the information in the websites below to produce a diagram showing the tilt of the Earth relative to the sun as it orbits the sun, labeling the seasons for both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Make sure that you label the north and south poles.

What's Your Angle

Why is the tilt of the Earth relative to the Sun responsible for the seasons we experience?
Use the information in the websites below to draw diagrams that shows how the angle of the light determines the season experienced on Earth.
